Kansas State Senator Cindy Holscher to Join Historic Nicodemus Homecoming Emancipation Celebration Parade
Nicodemus, KS — The Nicodemus Homecoming Emancipation Celebration (NHEC) is excited to welcome Kansas State Senator Cindy Holscher to this year’s celebration. Senator Holscher will take part in the Homecoming Parade on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM, joining a weekend that honors the rich legacy of African American pioneers in Nicodemus, Kansas.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of NHEC and one of its valued contributing partners, Senator Holscher’s visit marks a proud and meaningful moment for the community. The celebration is a highlight of the year and a powerful reminder of heritage, history, and homecoming.
A dedicated public servant and legislative trailblazer, Senator Holscher will be joining the festivities in recognition of Nicodemus—the oldest Black settlement west of the Mississippi River. Her participation highlights the ongoing importance of Black history, civic engagement, and the strength of community.
“I am honored to be a part of the Nicodemus Homecoming Emancipation Celebration,” said Senator Holscher. “The rich history of this community, and the African American families who settled here, compel us to reflect on the many outstanding contributions of both past and present residents—and to carry their legacy forward with pride and purpose.”
Senator Holscher’s leadership reflects a commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice—values deeply aligned with the purpose of this annual Homecoming Celebration, which commemorates the founding of Nicodemus in 1877, during the end of the Reconstruction era.
